VIN on tailgate?

Long time lurker, first time poster...

Is there a VIN sticker on the tailgate anywhere? Someone just stole mine last night/this morning and I don't even know if I can track it if I find a used one. Truck was less than a month old. :frown:

Just the tailgate. At first I thought someone was just being funny and put the tailgate down when I saw it was gone in the rear view mirror... then I go to the back and it's completely gone.:dontknow:

Tailgate theft is pretty big....sorry to say but there are slim chances of recovering it. Your best bet would be to find one on ebay that was stolen from someone else. Sucks man, where did it happen at?

Even if you could recover it, id doubt you would like the condition its in.

I would claim it on your insurance (theft wont make your premium go up). Then I would invest in a tailgate lock. Most body shops can make it so you pay nothing out of pocket...

If you dont have comp on your auto insurance more times then not your homeowners insurance will cover it.

These tailgates are way to easy to take off...

Someone took it as a joke and its laying on the side of the road some place, they are selling it, or they need it for their truck. It will probably be sold and re-painted very quickly.

Wow... That's unfortunate. I've had stuff stolen from me and It's the worst thing. :thumpdown: How much does a tailgate cost from the dealer??? I'd definitely check with your insurance first though.

Happened in my driveway... and I live in a court so it had to be someone local. The Tacoma around the corner from my house also has a missing tailgate.

Insurance deductible is $500. I'm sure I can probably claim it but they would only cover some of the cost.

Most body shops can wash out your deductible fully if not most of it.

LOL...Sorry to laugh, not trying to be rude in any way...but if I drove down your street and saw trucks missing tailgates all over the place, I would have to laugh:laugh:

I thought they said that they do not sell complete tailgates. You have to order the parts individually from the parts department and it would run about $800.00 without paint.

yes, there is a vin # on the tailgate. on the right side. sucks that someone stole it. :thumpdown: hopefully you find it, and the prick that stole it too, then you you could beat him with it..:top:
