Would this work?

If you plan on using your stock headunit, yeah that'll work...

That guy's funny. What he has there is a pair of reverse harnesses wired together with a LOC spliced in between. I have essentially the same thing, except I bought a better LOC and don't need the second harness b/c I plan on ampling ALL of my speakers.

Is there only one input to that bass box? or is each sub powered separately?

So is it worth it to get the harness just to run a pair of subs? or could i just as easily make a harness with a better LOC?

The only purpose for that "kit" is to salvage the OEM harness. You could tap the speaker wires and it would serve the same purpose. Or if you don't want to tap any factory wiring, you could buy that and substitute your own Line Out Converter. The final alternative (besides buying a headunit) is to find the harnesses separately, which *might* save you a buck or 2.

I think this little kit here serves the purpose though. If I planned on keeping my OEM speakers and wiring, I would have bought it.

Here's what I got to use with my LOC, just so I don't have to tap any existing wiring:
