I think someone on here should get a wind tunnel test done and see if that effect really happens. I would be interested in seeing the results...

i've heard that the scoop is not tall enough to get much air into the engine bay. the only reason that i opened mine up was to let any and all excess heat escape.:dontknow:

downside with this mod if you have the SC, water can play havick with electronics around the 7th injector causing hesitation in accelaration. Ooooops, what was that, damn there it is again, shewwww, finally dried out  Also water could get on the coil packs, causing hesitation as well. Not saying this will happen every time, but had both issues occur, closed her back up:rolleyez:

Does removing the plastic affect anything? I was thinking about taking mine out to get more airflow in that champ.
I heard removing the plastic wont do anything but let rain and dust into your engine compartment . One of the older guys i work with told me that his son did the same thing and screwed everything up. This guy is and old car guy hes been building and modding cars a long time. He told me it wont cool the engine and that it wont increase airflow . The best way to use it would be to buy an intake that collects air from the scoop.

Opened Hood scoop

I opened up my scoop. Only a little air gets in there because of the aerodynamics. That old fart is wrong about how heat will not escape. I can feel the hot air coming out of mine when I put my hand in front of it. Plus heat rises, and the scoop is the highest point on the hood. He must not know know how to modify cars is he is telling you this. It's common sense. Put you're hand in front of it.

:hmmmm2: have you tried holding your hand in front of it at 70+mph, bet the heat gets shoved right back in :dontknow:

Hood Scoop

Even if you were doing 70+mph and cool air was pushing the hot air back in, there would still be a circulation of cool air thus meaning that the hot air will flow out of the engine bay. Plus my engine runs cooler when it is off. Tested it.

Rivets

The only thing is that the plastic tabs break off when you remove the rivets

i dont think much air would flow into the scoop. Have you guys noticed that when it rains the water just beads up on top of the scoop and sits there, no matter how fast you drive. If you really want to let heat out then get a regular taco hood off ebay and notch and weld it into a cowl hood.

Knowing you, you'll find a way to screw something up :hahaha:

Unless someone makes a kit to make it functional, I'd say just leave it alone. I wont be messing with mine.

Had guys asking whats the point of the scoop with it closed ? that went thru my mind for a couple of months then said wtf lets go for it.YES i did see a slight temp drop but never expected to see a hp gain.As stated before the dirt issue is not a prob.call it just a matter of TASTE!:top:

This is exactly what I thought....seems like everyones kicking a dead horse on this...this mod doesnt seem to do good nor bad for most...its preference!
