So today i decided to finally fix the oil leak couldnt stand the oil anymore on the motor or braces on the frame. So i got up at 7am and began oh how much fun it was.

heres the tread about the leak:
http://www.xr-underground.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=37192

heres some pics of the oil that leaked out in the last 4 days:
if you look on the braces on that are silver you can see the oil pool:

so lets begin lol, first had to take off the PS pump and SC bracket oh joy, dissembled the sc kit very carefully :top: to not damage anything.

IMG_0099.jpg

after the sc bracket and PS pump were off i cleaned the block with brake cleaner and realized that the there was no oil behind the ps pump on the seal, so i look above it and this is what i found.

so i removed the valve cover and cleaned the head off:
IMG_0104.jpg

this is the valve cover with the gasket notice the wear on the front of the gasket.... its the white spot on the seal not suppose to be white.
IMG_0105.jpg

so since i had the cover off and since gas got poured all over the cover after it was paint during the injector swap for the sc decided to repaint it.
BEFORE:

this is what gas does to paint :eviltongue:

AFTER:

So i put PERMETEX ULTRA BLACK gasket maker.

Valve cover back on and sealed up nicely:

this is what the gasket looks like lol:

where it was leaking now all sealed:
IMG_0114.jpg

And all put back together, let the seal stand for about 8 hours before start also changed ps fluid to lucus ps fluid and rerouted some of the hoses for the sc. trimed some of the hoses so it looks clean:

only problem i had was after i started it back up i could smell burning like metal on metal so i shut it down and the SC pulley was on fire, very hot to the touch after like 20 secs of idle. So i retighted the oil lines and noticed the oil reservoir was overflowed with oil. :dontknow:. So i called the G-man instructed me to pull the return line of the reservoir and turn the car on and rev it and see if oil is flowing. sure enough began flowing after about 3 secs of 2500rpm rev hold. reattached everything and started her back up and reved it up to about 3k and it seems everything is ok. still smelling the burning when you get close to the blower i will drive it tomorrow just want to let the seal cure before testing.

so in closing, make sure you reseal the valve covers or check you seals before you put the covers back on during the x-1 install or for the painting of them. :top:

Nice work! I think I may have a small leak in the same area. Nothing near as heavy as that I just notice an oil film on that ledge area builds up after cleaning.

Why not a new gasket?

Oh and I dig the e-fan, would love to pick one up down the road.

Thought about getting new one but decided to go this route it is better seal and more resistant to oil build up. The origional gasket is still there i just put the permetex in the lip of the valve cover and then on the head.

the efan is amazing, keeps thing nice and cool, i love it.

Way too much black goop on there my friend. If you can see a ton globbing out around the edges like that then there are globs on the inside. After a while they come off and are now floating around in the engine.:frown:

Hopefully it'll all be good, but i avoid that kind of stuff. Good luck bro:top:

thanks bro for the look out, its the same stuff that toyota used on the TC cover and they instructed me to apply it heavly to the outside edge of the cover. I will pull it back off today but im pretty sure that the globs are on outside.

didnt know where the leak was so took off front of motor and then also took some time rerouting hoses for the sc. and i repaint the vc and two of the tubeing for the sc, plus little breaks and crap. lol.

At least it wasn't the timing chain cover like you thought.

For our power steering, it takes ATF fluid (DEXTRON II or III) Not PS fluid.

Well I'm glad that it wasn't the timing cover. having it just at the valve cover makes it so much easier.

Mine had leaked there also. Did you ever put the check valve in?
