I just painted it with a rattle can. My friend used a spray gun but it was his first time using reducer... it didn't turn out well and started cracking. So I sanded it down some and sprayed it. Surprisingly, I have had no rock chips (knock on wood). Wanna do yours? Cost is like $20 (paint and beer :smile.

what do you have as mesh for your upper?
