Payload capacity question

I've read up on a few threads about our "reduced" payload capacity. I've seen people have heavy loads but are usually on pallets. Anyone load a safe on the bed? I'm looking into pick one up and it's ~500 pounds. Its the floor model so i'll probably have to load it open box style. I know we have a chincy tailgate too and I'm sure it will buckle if I use it. Any info would be appreciated.

My truck is totally stock right now

Thanks

I've put an 800 lbs safe in my truck just fine. I've hauled plenty of heavy loads. Unsure of the exact weight of the loads. But that 800 lbs safe was fully loaded so it may have been closer to 1,000 lbs. Not much drop in the rear suspension either. Maybe an inch or so. My truck's suspension just has 1.5" drop blocks in the rear.

The pic I posted is not the most I've carried. I've had two sportbikes, 2 people, tools, gear, basiclly stuffed to the gills. It'll handle a 500lbs safe just fine.

I've loaded both my bottom and top tool box along with all my tools in the bed and in the dab and now my leafs have sagged. I'd say if u only do it once you'll be fine.

Uhh, now I feel safe putting 2 Sportsbike in the Back!

I drilled 3 1/2 inch holes in the front of the bed. 1 on each side and 1 in the center. Added 1/2inch eyelets bolted to the bed. $15 from homedepot and works perfect.

Yeah, a fridge dolly and about 6 guys. Took tailgate off and got close to the curb and just leaned it down so the very top of the safe was on the edge of my bed. A couple guys in the middle to lift and a couple guys at the bottom to push. Then a couple glasses of water afterward! It was a hot day that day. Too hot to wear our ACUs! Lol! Btw, it was only one safe! Damn military grade high-protective safe!

any time i load something i remove the tailgate.. the owners manual recomends it. i have a power lock kit so my task is a tad more complicated then the normal.... its just a quick disconnect, but still gotta deal with it..

i would not worry about the safe.... if it cant hual that then........what good is a fake truck

.

hay tahoe! how big did you make the plate on the back side????

I understand. I'm still getting used to the chincy composite bed thing.

None. I had these in my 06 carrier bikes several times anywhere between 160 to 600 mile round trips depending on which track I went to until some jackhole rear ended it. Took them and put then on my 08. These beds are strong. When the Tacoma came out for 05 factory reps would demo how strong the composit bed is by beating them with a sledgehammer. No cracks.
