just a little mod made from the bottom draw of my toolbox... 100% free...

it is a solid motor dampener... it is bolted to the cross frame through a hole that was already there... then some grinding and some good guessing to get the holes on the transmission..

pretty much it is going to stop all the allowed movement in the motor mounts..

they are suppose to increase response time because the motor can not flex.. dont really feel like explaining the whole theory behind them.. but one of the main reasons i did it was to see if it will help with second gear... by keeping the motor still.. when you come out of first the motor toques then when you let off the gas to shift to second it flexes back down and shakes around.. hopefully this will keep thing more inline and solid...

well see what happens... it will help or do nothing for the shifting..

I've been think about making one of those for some time.....but having no flex in your driveline makes for a very harsh shock load being sent through the entire truck, when you clutch kick like I would.

I hope it works for You!

I didn't know that... thanks for the heads up..

So far everything seems to shift really smooth.. all of the shakes from the s3 and lwf are pretty much gone.. you can feel them transmit to the frame (in ur butt) which is not much and for the most part the shifter stays still ... I have not gotten on it from a dig yet .. I was out of gas from driving to Japan (LOL)

So far for dd-ing around town it seems like a well worth mod.. it is easier to ease up to a car with out the motor jumping .. it keeps everything nice and smooth..

well the trans is still grinding BUT the stabilizer has done great for the clutch shuttering!! i am thinking of removing my short shifter kit to see what happens....

the Megasquirt is still in the works... as of now i have a few bills i need to tend to...

the plan with the MS is going to be get it... and use it as a AIC for temp.. then unleash all of its tuning capabilities

before i get that.. i need to fix all of my exhaust leaks.. new E.man gaskets and turbo gasket.. see if that will put some more pep in the step!

well a little update!! not for the better but not too bad

my inter-cooler pump is bad... it is intermittently not working... i tried moving the wires around and had no luck.. i just watch my intake temps when i drive my truck it is obvious when it is not working.. like when it was 60 or so outside i was boosting around (when i first noticed) the intake temps went to 110.. then putted around and they dropped back down... :(

one thing i noticed when i first installed the kit i noticed that the pump had an uneven flow.. it would pump strong then a little weaker...

really i think the brushes are bad in the motor and the only reason i think that is because just yesterday i was using my electric grinder (which has had a hell of a life) it was working in a similar operation then it started working intermittently the just died... i think i am going to do a little rewiring on the oil and water pump since they use the same relay and they are both on the same time off delay timer and i don't like how the power to the pumps is being supplied..

ON A GREATER NOTE!! for those of the Houston people who know about my 72 bug project i have started working on it again!!! the truck in kinda on the back burner for now.. i am getting the chassis ready for airbags i will post some pics of the bug progress when i hook my phone up to my computer.. :) :)

The intercooler pumps can have a couple of different problems.

First is the motor can crap out and not run like it should.

The more common failure is the motor runs fine, but it does not pump.

The impeller is not directly connected to motor. It uses a magnetic drive to spin the impeller. Over time crap can build up on the magnets and prevent the impeller from spinning like it should. Something can also jam the impeller and it just does not spin.

Best thing to do is listen for the motor to run with the key on and every time you check your oil open the cap of the expansion tank and make sure you see the water flowing like it should be.

with the trd i could listen to it when the motor was off... with the way it is wired up now the oil pump runs with the water pump so listening to it or even putting you hand on the water pump it is hard to tell if it is running one because the oil pump sounds like an airbag pump and also because the oil pump is solid mounted to the frame it transmits light vibration through the chassis... i need to find my stethoscope and get it to my ears... but like any unorganized tool box i will find it when i dont need it... lol

i will have to pull it off and see if there is anything blocking the magnets... although i just think the motor is not running at all when it is not working because there is no fluid transfer at all.. and from what i can tell be putting my hand on the motor it seems like it is not on despite the vibrations from the oil pump...

i would like to swap to a2a for the simplicity of it.. one thing i do like about the w2a is during the summer i never saw my intake temps get above 110 in traffic.. with the trd i would see 120 real quick.. getting the new setup to 110 takes a real long time...

once i get my vw rolling again i will start looking at options for the truck..

Wow. For real?
The highest intake temps i would get in houston in the summer was 112degrees.
And I have air to air.

Bad brushes, bad connection, or something that Gadget mentioned. Replace it with a better quality pump.

is i finally did another mod... i did an oil pan swap with e10pvmt thanks again!!

the swap went down with him wanting a shallow pan for his '03 4 runner and me wanting a deeper pan for oil protection.. this mod was practically free... he paid for his shipping and i paid for mine.. about $20..

here are the big differences in our pans VS the normal pan..

you can see that the X pan is really wide and shallow.. the problem i see with the X pan is when hitting a hard corner there is a ton of room for the oil to slosh to one side and cause engine failure.. the 4runner pan has a deep and narrow pan and the sides of the upper oil pan are really steep so the oil looks like it will "shoot " into the lower pan faster than the stock x pan

ill post some more pics tomorrow of all installed ..

here are the installed pics... i guess the 03 4 runner had a little different cross member so i did have to modify the bottom pan... there was no way i was taking it off.. i had to grind down a little on the lip of the pan to clear so it would not hit with the motor shaking.. cant really see what i did in the pics but it was really small

i did have to remove all of the studs from the oil pan to get it under the block and cross member and in doing so i did have to replace the two studs on the oil pan with bolts...

but here it is installed... since i had to grind off a little i grabbed some paint i had laying around and gave the pan a new color to cover up fresh metal so it would not rust...

at the end of the day i can say that i can go out and do some carefree donuts and not worry about losing oil on the pick up tube:biggrin::biggrin::top::top:

I have the same pan. I almost knocked the drain plug off bottoming out once. I got coupes oil pan guard and it hangs just low enough to cover the drain plug. I'd think about getting one or a skid plate to protect it.

What did you bottom out on to hit the pan? Did you drive over a curb sideways? Lol. I've got that pan as well had it for almost two years now. No probs at all and less worries about blowing my motor again!!

OK so wondering...

I am looking into a new ecu... I am looking into going different and going with the megasquirt 3e.. I will be ablile to do a lot of stuff with it...

Talking with a Rep at Ms ... he mentioned what type of crank and came signal we use... so far I have come up with. We use a 36-2 crank wheel..

Sick setup! Very curious to see how well megasquirt will work with 1gr. Hope it works out. Keep us posted on that
