needing to put a car seat behind drivers seat. should i just flip seat down and attach to the metel clip there?

Yes. Use the latches and the PITA top strap.
I actually kept my seat flipped up and used my subs to level the seats:

If you don't like the latches or your kid is small enough to use the seat's built-in harness, make sure you use a Mighty-Tite Child Seatbelt Tightener. Keeps the seat in nice and tight!

I couldn't flip the rear seats because I have a Subbin' box...
