Have to take off the compressor and quite possibly the tensioner pulley bracket. 12mm for the 4 compressor bolts, and 14mm for the 5 or 6 tensioner bracket bolts.

so, pulled the crankshaft position sensor today and damn its a mess behind my a/c compressor. oil just caked all over the place.

anyways, did a resistance check on the crank sensor. the FSM calls for 1850-2450 ohms at 68 degrees. at first i was getting a straight out open. now im gettin about 2100 ohms. and every now and then it will go to open. i think something is wrong with this part. should get the new one in Monday. will try to replace that, clean up everything in the area and see if this fixes the problem. if it is an intermittent issue would explain why i had that one time where it was running fine until i messed around with it again.

if its not the crankshaft sensor, then ill check the timing one more time and see if My68ur8 can swing by and confirm that its good or bad. if thats good, then its going back to stock and going to the dealer. altho it wont go to the dealer until may since ill be going out of town for 2 months

so, a little update. decided to try and pull the APR X-1 again. didnt solve the problem but it did let the engine actually run so i could see if it would throw a code or 2. the codes it threw were

2E6F134A-6EC1-4685-BF33-E05DF34494FA-343-000000216D375B7F_zpsb5d88256.jpg

after that, for shits and giggles, i decided to swap the cam sensors. when i did that, i got this:

A2FC2067-4206-4994-8E58-F4EAE6FD63D9-343-00000020BF7631B9_zps70e96535.jpg

also, during the "idle" this is what my adv timing is

CC11D1E7-CC4A-4AB1-B149-F303FA8AE096-343-00000020C2831B14_zpsf0ca6f72.jpg

the engine smells like its running rich since i can just flat out smell fuel after it runs for a little bit.

the next thing im going to check is the actual timing again. gotta figure out what a good day to do this.

The timing looks close to where it's supposed to be change that crank sensor yet?

Dang man that's not good

nope its not.

the p0016 and p0018 basically state to fix the timing chain. so thats what im hoping it is after all this.

if its not the timing, i dont know what else it could be :/

Yea there not worth saving. You should be able to tell if it is stretched though does it have a abnormal amount of slack?

There is a timing chain inspection cover on the passenger side of the timing cover. Four bolts hold on the rectangle cover.

It might be that you have a malfunctioning tensioner. Possibly? It is right behind that cover. If your timing chain has any slack in it, then either it is bad, or the tensioner is bad.

To replace the timing chain, isn't too hard, it is just a lengthy process.

An idea for reference on the inspection cover. If you need, I can upload a whole TIS walk though on the timing chain.
